Pop-Quiz Fun! Pop quizzes for Confirmation facts have begun again! They are earlier than last year since the test is much earlier this year. Students are learning bits of information that will be on their final Confrimation test in February. A lot of this is root memorization so I have set the ball running. These pop quizzes are entered in as assignments, not tests, so students have opportunities to recover if they do poorly. HOWEVER, students should be looking over their information at least 1-2 times a week.
**7 gifts of the Holy Spirit, 12 fruits of the Holy Spirit, Sacraments (Initiation, Healing, Service), 12 Apostles, 4 marks of the Church...

Also, 8th grade is working their way through chapter 1 in their Confirmation book. They will have a vocabulary test every few chapters and also journals and activities to work on in class. Participation is HUGE while we spend time in the Confirmation book, so please be attentive!

6th grade has started Chapter 4 in their religion books: God Promises to Help People
This chapter focuses on the effects of Original Sin, how our friendship with God is restored, the story of Cain and Abel, story of Noah and the story of the Tower of Babel. This is a HUGE chapter and a lot of information is included. Students will be reading, taking notes and discussing the chapter daily. No assignments are planned to go home this week. If anything changes, students will be notified in class.

6th Grade Literature 10/17-10/21

We are finished up with the City of Ember and are now on to the film version of the story. While watching the movie this week, students are taking notes on the differences and similarities they see in the movie and the book. They will then be writing a paper on the similarities/differences and also what they liked/didn't like about the movie. This helps keep the movie viewing somewhat academic!! :) I will also be collecting the notebooks for the City of Ember for the final time on Friday, October 21.

This week 7th grade will be finishing chapter 5. We will finish taking our notes and having discussions on Tuesday. Chapter 5 Assessment will be assigned on Tuesday and study guides will be given out on Wednesday after guidance. Those are due at the beginning of class on Thursday. Student's will be having their chapter 5 test on MONDAY 10/24!!

8th Graders started getting some of the information for their Confirmation test. Yes, that's what I said. The test is not for a few more months, but I was to squeeze in bits here and there over the next few months so that they are as best prepared as possible! In addition to this, we will begin working in the Confirmation book (their red book). There aren't many graded assignments for this book but participation in discussions, note taking and activities will be counted towards their grade so please remember to listen up and participate! :) I am planning on making through the 1st chapter this week of the Confirmation book.

This week 7th grade will be working on chapter 5 in their religion books: Jesus Christ, the Good News
Students have been having trouble focusing on what we are working on in class so students are asked to really concentrate in class, check their behaviors so that we can have a productive class for everyone. It's good to have fun and conversations, but please, let's keep them to a minimum. We will be taking notes from the PowerPoint, reading through the chapter and discussing main ideas starting on Tuesday.
** Look for a test happening towards the end of next week (10/17 - 10/21)

6th Religion 10/10 - 10/14

Monday we will be practicing for the Rosary. This will be presented at 2:45 in the gym.
Starting on Tuesday and through the rest of the week, we will be working in the Mass book getting through the 1st chapter. Reciting the Apostle's Creed today reminded me of how close we are to the changes that will be taking place on November 27th. There wont be any assignments this week that will be coming home. However, we will be doing some activities in class. It is possible that we will be starting chapter 4 on Friday.

Monday we be for studying and reviewing for the test that is on Tuesday, October 4th. On Wednesday we will be having guidance as always. Thursday and Friday of this week will be used for working in our "What's New with the Mass" booklets, along with discussing Tessa's Place service project opportunity. If we are able to get through the plans in a timely manner, 8th graders can use class time to work on their Saint reports, so having your flash-drive handy would probably be helpful.

Our review for the chapter 3 test is on Monday. We will be going over the study guides and making sure that the answers are correct. The test is Tuesday, October 4th. On Wednesday we have guidance as always. Thursday and Friday will be used for putting together the 6th grade rosary for Monday, October 10th. We will also be working in our "What's New with the Mass" books. Please make sure that these books are with them in class on Thursday and Friday.

Monday and Tuesday we will be finishing chapter 4 on God the Father. The chapter 4 Assessment will assigned either Monday (7A) or Tuesday (7B) and will be turned in at the end of class. I will grade these and give them back to the students no later than Wednesday. Our test will be on Friday, October 7th with review and study time on Thursday. We will also be working with our "What's New in the Mass" books on Thursday and after the test on Friday so please make sure students bring those to class.

Chapter 9: Christian of the Early Middle Ages
Week of 9/26-9/29
- 8th grade is continuing our study of Christianity in the early Middle Ages. This chapter is full of information and we are taking things slow. The early years of the church were some of the most formative and important years as it fought to grow and amongst invasions, persecutions, and sinfulness. Some very important people and teachings to remember for this chapter are: Pope Gregory the Great, Charlemagne, monasticism, evangelical councils, schism and pagan invasions.
We will be finishing the chapter on Thursday and will be testing on Tuesday of next week.

Chapter 3: People Turn from God
Week of 9/26 - 9/29
- This week we are continuing our journey through chapter 3. This chapter includes the use of a symbols to help us understand the meaning and messages God is revealing to us about himself. It has been stressed to the students that the stories in Genesis first 11 chapters are NOT historical facts, but are theological truths. This is a very difficult concept for young people who are accustomed to hearing the stories of creation and Adam & Eve their whole lives. We are challenging these young students to seek the truth that God has revealed to us and to have faith in what it is God has revealed to us.
Students are taking notes, working on a symbols worksheet, reading and having regular discussions about the meaning and understanding of the truth that is being given to them. We are hoping to conclude chapter 3 on Thursday.

Chapter 4: God, the Loving Father
Week of 9/26-9/29
- This week 7th grade will be starting chapter 4 in their religion books. This chapter focuses on God, the Father: the 1st person of the Blessed Trinity. The students and I will be reading and discussing what role God the Father has played in our faith throughout history, and in our lives today. They will be given a study guide for the chapter that is to be completed as we progress through the chapter. There are NO homework assignments this week, but students should be prepared for class with materials and to participate!
